For the uninitiated, Shota is in fact Mnqobi Mdabe, with Shota being his clan name. He was born in KZN into a family of 4. He knew at a very young age that he had been bitten by the proverbial music bug, and wanted to do something big in the industry.
When he finished school, he together with long-time friend and music partner Nathi (better known as Black Coffee) went on to study for a Diploma in light Music at the then Natal Technikon.
That’s where as they say ‘the eagle took flight’. Shota and Black Coffee met Demor and the trio formed the now very well respected group Shana in 1997 with Shota taking on the Lead Vocalist role.
